Guy and Emma Bowley have established a
vineyard in Jamestown in the Southern
Flinders Ranges wine region known as Belalie
Bend, as of (2004) we started our own
production of varietal wines. Our volumes will increase
over the next few years as all our vines come online as
we planted over a three year period. At the moment we
are working hard on tourism to this area and hope that
one day this region will have some wines of note.
Our Riesling and Sauvignon
Blanc are Jamestown's first locally grown
white wine grape varieties. The Belalie
Bend vineyard is only 3km North of the
Jamestown township. Our vineyard's altitude is
515m or 1690feet helps to produce cool nights to
preserve the grapes acidity and ensure a more balanced
wine. Guy and Emma use biologically sound and
environmentally sustainable practices. Belalie Bend
vines have been grown from cuttings taken in the Clare
Valley, varieties include Riesling, Shiraz,
Cabernet Sauvignon, Mataro, Sauvignon Blanc and
Muscat.
Emma Bowley is the winemaker and has
been trained at Charles Sturt University. After working
for the big wine companies and overseas (USA
and Italy), Emma decided to move to the
smaller wineries where she could really 'make' wine.
Emma also works as a contract
winemaker for a winery in the Clare Valley where she
has produced many multi award winning
wines.
The rest is all in the making
